New assessment tool in the making!

Polytechnic University of Milan (POLIMI), our MODUL4R partner, is working on the development of an assessment tool that will help end-users, including factories and their supply chains, to elevate circularity and sustainability.

The approach being followed for its development is based on a combined concept of Life Cycle Assessment and an optimization tool. The motivation for this is to control resource consumption along the entire manufacturing chain, from material extraction and product design through to product end-of-life management, and also to reduce the negative impact of products on human health and the ecosystem.

The image below shows an evaluation of the impact of each process and component on different areas, such as water, energy, critical raw materials, and the environmental footprint.

The development of this assessment tool is within the framework of task “LCA and Environmental Assessments for Sustainable and Circular Manufacturing Chains” that is part of our MODUL4R research project, in which, outside of POLIMI, partners representing AIMEN, EMO, SSF and MGEP are also involved.
