Technology

MODUL4R is a project that aims to improve manufacturing operations across the supply chain by integrating innovative technologies.

MODUL4R offers benefits such as predicting capabilities, interoperable data, and process optimisation. The project will also use real-time simulations to predict and prevent unwanted events, and enable flexible and sustainable processes for affordable productions.

The 4 Pillars

The project proposes a holistic framework applicable to both new and existing manufacturing lines that is based on 4 pillars:

Resilience against changes in customer and societal demands and disruption on the supply chain

Includes design and redesign strategies for products, process chains and process planning to accommodate customer and societal changes and optimisation of process chains across the supply chain.

Modular Technologies for flexible manufacturing operations

Includes Industrial Strategies for distributed control and automation for modular operations, connection with the industrial metaverse, and a Cyber-Physical service-oriented platform to support these operations.

Simulation and Interfaces to the Industrial Metaverse

This pillar will develop Hybrid Twins and interfaces to the Industrial Metaverse as well as examine Virtual Commissioning for control simulations and flexible operations.

Human centred technologies and upskilling

The final human centred pillar includes strategies and training to support workers achieve supply chain optimisation and resilience against disruptions.

In Detail

MODUL4R smart hardware interfaces and the CPPSoS distributed platform enable flexible manufacturing operations, while digital twins support process simulation and prediction.

Collectively, these functions support the development of collective intelligence from the supply chain, customers, workers, and societal needs, and enable the identification of suitable production strategies.

Smart services with Reactive Functions provide fast reaction and close-to-machine operation.

Cognitive Functions monitor quality and support production strategy identification.

Coordination Functions manage design and process chain requirements for flexible manufacturing operations.
